Does anyone know the date you have to own Barclays shares by to qualify for the April dividend?
Thanks
Edit - just found out they probably aren't paying anyway.

It's a good idea for Barclays not to pay out - better to shore up capital and return some confidence.0

Last year the ex-dividend date for finals was 05 March ... payment date 25 April. Would guess a similar time frame this year ... if indeed they do pay a dividend, which I wouldn't 'bank' on! :rotfl:

IF barcs do hold divis then their shares will go down even more.
Perhaps a change in holding dates would be best for them to ride out some waves.
Bear in mind though some arabs guys are first in the queue before you.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
Barclays dont pay a dividend (on normal shares) till the autumn
Apparently they are going to announce profits of over 5bn but all that is going towards bad debt provisions I suppose so that people can actually believe in them as viable
Imagine if for the last ten years the banks had put half their profits towards possible bad debts, we'd not have such a problem now
Lloyds are a better/cheaper bet and they wont pay a dividend till the prefs are paid back but they are on record as saying they will issue free shares in lieu of payment towards shareholders.
Unfortunately those shares arent worth much now but you cant say they didnt try0 -

Sorry, that's not true ... like many companies they would usually pay dividends twice yearly (Each April following the previous year's 'Final' results and each October following that year's 'Interim' results).
However, as the OP quite rightly suggested, it doesn't look as if they'll be paying the 'Finals' dividend in April this year ... http://www.investorrelations.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=articleFWgroup&site=inv&value=1182&menu=374 (See 'Dividend Questions')Best MSE comp win so far: iPod Classic (June 2009) - Thanks to all who post!0 -
Does Barclays pay a cash dividend?
Yes, Barclays PLC has paid dividends on its ordinary shares every year without interruption since its incorporation in 1896.
However, in the light of the new capital ratios agreed with the FSA and in recognition of the need to maximise capital resources in the current economic climate, the Board of Barclays has concluded that it would not be appropriate to recommend the payment of a final dividend for 2008.
This dividend, amounting to c£2bn, would otherwise have been payable in April 2009. We intend to resume dividend payments in the second half of 2009.
If they actually gave that dividend now it would 24p a share or since they have lost 10% again today to close 66p, it would be a yield of 36%
Pretty dam sweet, in theory0 -

You mean "High Yield Bonds"
Latest statement says that they won't be paying a divi till the 4th quarter and that the final dividend will be "significantly lower" than the 50% of profits they have paid in the past... Presumably the bonuses or the stock options for senior managers and directors will be "significantly lower" too.
Mind you - I bought £2k of Barclays shares in February. They are now "worth" £7k. 350% growth in three months. A divi will be the icing on the cake! Moral of the story? Sometimes, just sometimes, a stock doesn't crash five minutes after I invest in it.
Two.0 -
You want the total divi to be at least 5% of that 7k or traders will just sell them off for reliable utility stocks or whatever
They are switching to quarterly dividends hence they'll start fourth quarter not an interim divi which would have been announced this august0
