Motorbike Insurance Claim - Administration Costs

My motorbike was recently written off. The third party has admitted liability and I'm waiting for his insurance company to make me an offer for my bike. In addition to the bike I want to claim for my time in recovering the bike from the accident scene, and the hours of admin I have had to do phoning up the insurance company etc. Does anybody have any experience of this, including if appropriate a reasonable per hour rate I can charge for my time? BTW, I have my own company which is VAT registered.

sorry, is not going to happen.

seen people previously try it on, never ever paid.

Solicitors usually try to claim £50 admin, costs, inconveiance etc, but again never gets paid.

Not true - generally solicitors will claim anything between £30 - £50 for misc. expenses (phone calls, inconvenience etc) which is a valid head of claim and will normally be paid.

I'll put in a claim for £50 quid and see what happens. I spend 3/4 of an hour pulling the bike out of the wreckage and pushing it home, and then hours phoning his insurance company so I think its a very valid claim myself!

£50 is not unreasonable - if I was dealing with your claim, I would agree it if I was in a good mood or rushed, if I am feeling argumentative I might try and knock it down to £35! :D

I know when I dealt with some motor claims for NFU a few years ago they instructed us that £35 was the maximum they would pay.
  • You've saved a £120/30+ recovery charge being incurred so detailing this will certainly work in your favour.
