Soolin, is Recorded Delivery that unreliable? Does the tracking rarely show delivery?

I returned a £30 SNAD item on 29th December by RD. The seller says he has not received it and I believe him. The tracking number just shows:

“Information on your item is not yet available online.”

What is the point of offering a RD tracking service but not bothering to complete the tracking?

If this is the usual Post Office standard, I think I will stop using RD.

I will be sumbitting a claim to the PO but it is all hassle I really don't want or need.

The reliability seems to vary, my own experience is that it is rarely signed for but some parts of the country seem much better covered. Of all the items I sent recorded in October not one single one ever showed as delivered, yet I know they all were. I routinely go through my recorded slips and make a claim on every one where no signature was obtained (I don't claim for loss just for the 72p as I know what has arrived) and I get a book of stamps for every one.

I have had three items so far this week recorded, two have been left in my normal post unsigned for and don't show as delivered on the track and trace. I have been carded for another today but I suspect that is only because it is a large pack and it wouldn't go through my letter box.

I believe that other people may have a more positive experience than me though.

The other thing is Royal mail know they have problems with the service so a claim for loss is not guaranteed, strange as it might sound. There is still a chance that the recipient will be asked to confirm that item is in fact lost before any claim is processed.

Pray tell, how does one get the stamps?

Claiming is a right pain, so make sure you have a stack of forms and an hour to spare. It is the normal claim form that you get from the Post Office, fill in th efirst bits , addresses etc, but use the text box to explain that you are claiming for no proof of delivery. I usually do a whole batch and then attach a covering letter but i believe some of the more savvy people on here might actually have a template for a mass claim form.

Usually within 2 weeks I get a book of 1st class stamps worth £4.32 for each unsigned item.

I think 6 months, but I don't know if that is something I've made up or something I've seen on the RM website. :o

I'd better start trawling through my receipts. Thanks for the info.

I'd imagine it's the former judging by most of the advice you give on here soolin :)
  • I'm assuming a lot of you have been scammed a few times by buyers, or is the mis-trust just for low feedback bayers?

I have to say I have changed the delivery address perhaps 15-20 times in recent months without anyone batting an eyelid.. I have had loads of hassle with the address in my paypal NOT matching the address paypal send and they cant offer explanation! (the address varies between mine & the missus mums!)

Never had a single seller question why.

The claim form is available on RM site to download as a PDF, you should be able to edit you info in and amend if you have the right software (I have full adobe but that's expensive)

Cutoff is 6 months from date posted.
