DIVX (NO SOUND WHEN PLAYING DVDs)

I recently downloaded DIVX to play my dvds because Windows media player 10 was unable to play the dvd because "a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on my computer". I downloaded divx and this seemed to cure the problem because it played the dvds that WMP could not!
Although I can watch the dvds I cannot hear the sound. I know this is the case because divx is just a video codec and does not play audio.
So I downloaded RADIUM MP3 CODEC to give me sound when playing the dvds but this still does not work!
I dont know how to get divx and radium mp3 to work with each other.
Any suggestions folks? I would love a bit of help

Sounds like a codec problem to me if sound works for everything else. I use this codec pack.

Just realised your having problems with dvds with the sound, then that doesnt sound like a codec problem. Does sound work else where?
You could try bsplayers its free.

Yes, I can listen to a radio station online, so my sound seems ok.0

An AC3 codec would be a better bet than an MP3, for DVD playback.
Some trial versions of DVD players leave behind the codecs that they use. These can be picked up by 'front end' freeware DVD players.

Hi thanks for the reply.
Could you give a bit more detail, Im not that familiar with codecs etc.
Where would I find AC3?0 -
Copy and Paste this link:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Filter.htm
You will get the codecs you need.
Good LuckI have learnt that providing excellence gets you what you deserve and not what you want !!!0 -

I also saw your identical question on a media player classic forum.
I got this following the download -> filters section on https://www.doom9.org
http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/
A codec is often termed a filter.
Here are some application notes to a freeware player of note. It shows how to register codecs/filters with the operating system. http://www.inmatrix.com/articles/dvdgraph.shtml
You can play media files with codecs and filters using Filter GraphEdit without the need for a glossy 'front end'.

If it's an DivX-encoded AVI file you're trying to play, you can try GSpot to find out which codecs you need to play that particular file:
