Is Outlook Express running when you receive the test email? It must be if the email is arriving in the OE Inbox. Is Outlook also running? ???
Try this test. Send an email to yourself from OE and once it has left the Outbox, exit OE. Then fire up Outlook and see if the email arrives.0 -
(EDIT - Just found out Chippy Minton got there first :-) )
I can help with this bit:DA what was IE?
IE = Internet Explorer. Open it up, click on the Tools menu and then select the menu option 'Internet Options'
In the Window that appears select the 'Programs' tab and under there you should have a list of all the default programs - Make sure your Default E-mail program is set to 'Microsoft Outlook' not 'Outlook Express'
However - having though about your problem a little.
1. When you are sent an e-mail it is first of all delivered to a mail box held on your behalf by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) - (this is so your PC doesn't have to be on all the time for people to send you mail).
2. When you load Outlook or Outlook Express they contact your ISP using your account details and ask for all the mails that have been delivered for you while your PC has been turned off.
3. When the message has been downloaded into Outlook or Outlook Express it is very possible they are removing it from the mail box held by your ISP (this is by design)
4. So - when your second mail program gets around to checking for any new mail at your ISP it's already been taken by the first program!
Is it possible you have got both Outlook and Outlook Express open at the same time and Outlook Express is just getting there first?
If so - close Outlook Express - send a test mail from Outlook and see if it lands.
Did this make any sense?0 -
Progress can be reported....! Did as instructed and closed down outlook Express. The test email I sent from Outlook, arrived in Outlook> A result eh!
Can I with confidence be assured that all my emails are going to arrive in Outlook? For example, when I logged on to OE earlier there were 8 emails theren waiting ......can I assume these will automatically arrive in Outlook? (providing I don't log on to OE)0 -
Yes, as long as you don't open OE your emails should arrive in Outlook. Can I with confidence be assured that all my emails are going to arrive in Outlook? For example, when I logged on to OE earlier there were 8 emails theren waiting ......can I assume these will automatically arrive in Outlook? (providing I don't log on to OE)
I don't think OE can be installed because it's required by IE, however to ensure that OE never picks up your emails even if you run it, simply 'invalidate' your OE email details (Tools - Options - Mail tab - Properties - Servers tab). If your POP3 server is pop3.myisp.net, change it to pop3.myisp.netREMOVE. Do similar for the SMTP server and your Incoming Server Account name. That way OE is still available if you need it, but it won't be able to connect to your ISP.0 -
I would also make sure that Outlook is your default mail client
