Newbie, and HSBC... BOOOM!

:AHello fellow money savers! :A
Yet another newbie here… I am really comforted by your testimonies and examples… keep it up!
Here is a quick overview: (for both myself and my wife)
Income: £1100pm
Overdraft debt: (both mine) HSBC = £300 + Barclays = £250
Credit card debts: mine £960 (Limit 1000) + hers £350 (limit 400)
Loan (sooooo stupid idea!) = £5000 (paying back 12’200 cuz of mix up and PPI, also trying to sort!!!)
Mobile phone and BT debt: £310
Monthly outgoings: £1300 (updated)
I have kicked myself because I knew about this finance stuff in 07, and could have done it then, but for some reason didn’t – probably cuz I hadn’t found THIS site yet:mad: lol:D
Anyway, since my wife and I started using the site, we found that we had a £500 deficit every month, which we have now managed to reduce to £200 deficit. This is a move in the right direction!
I'm also about to be a new daddy, and am trying to sort finances cuz I'm sure you all know dat children = money
1)So far, we have been more vigilant with fuel, and saved nearly £10pw, plus we have started doing car shares at work and we all chip in (£2) and this works great, and saves more!
2)We have changed our shopping habits, as we have ASDA, TESCO and some others all in close vicinity of each other, we simply find where things are cheapest, and then walk/waddle from shop to shop! It’s made shopping much more interesting (helps with my losing weight program for 2009 too!)
3)Our car insurance was coming up for renewal, and we had paid £900 :eek:last year because we were told it was a great deal (in comparison to £2000 maybe so…) but this year when it came for renewal, we did like savers should and compared. We went with a better insurance, for £410!
4)Our mobile phone contracts (supposed to be £35 each always went to £45-70 each, even when we didn’t use them much) had finished and we weren’t told bout it, so they are going (as soon as I finish paying the debt on them), and we will be on pay as you go soon.
5)Our monthly outgoings are being balanced and I am paying off as and when I can!
So bit by bit we are making changes and being more careful, enough to save £300 going out!
Now, I do have a question, and it is about bank charges.
I have read around, but am still unsure:
I sent off my first letter, very proudly, and got the generic 3 page reply yesterday, similar to what I read someone else have, trying to make you feel like a five year old.
Now, HSBC have basically told me that I need to fill out some forms and stuff to prove that I am in financial hardship, which I truly am in, seeing that I have had only 2 months in 2 years WITHOUT overdraft charges, (with them) I am a father to be (two weeks or so), and my income at the moment is low, plus my wife is only getting maternity pay and as stated earlier, a £200 deficit per month (between us).
They want me to fill this thing out, and then call them for them to offer “solutions”! I REALLY don’t fancy calling!
what do i do? do i do it their way, or carry on and send stage two letter?
What is the verdict of my new friends out there?
Anyone else had this issue with HSBC?
I look forward to your answers!
From a very nervous Daddy! :rotfl:
