Forgot to renew house insurance, lost NCB

Hi, I wonder if anyone can put me right on a home insurance query. I had some exams late last year and my buildings and contents insurance was due around the same time. I totally forgot about it then realised around Christmas. Ive finally got round to getting quotes and was going to go ahead with one of them and I got the message that I dont have any NCB as my prev insurance had expired by more than 30 days. I have had my house for 8 yrs and have always renewed on time and have never claimed. Can anyone advise me, its a bit harsh if its true. I know with cars its normally 2 yrs before NCB is lost.

Thanks in advance

Best wishes

As far as I'm aware Home Insurance "NCB" isn't universally acknowledged, it was just someone's bright idea in some department or other somewhere a few years ago.

If you don't make a claim, you get a discount, great. How much is that discount worth? Not sure.

You could be paying £365 a year net of a 17% discount or a 3% discount. Most people don't really care. It's the bottom line which matters, isn't it?

In summary: I wouldn't worry about it too much.
