Car Insurance Automatic Renewals

Paid for last year's car insurance with my credit card. For this year I switched to a different insurer and delayed the start of this new insurance by a week as the car was not going to be used and was left locked in the garage. But I did not read the small print on the renewal that they would take payment from my credit card unless I told them not to, which they did. I phoned them and their refund will be minus an admin fee and they insist that I pay for the week when I did not plan on insuring the car.
Any advice on the best way to get my full payment back would be appreciated.

Why do you think you are entitled to get your money back?
Simple fact is the insurer has done nothing wrong and it is your error.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Your car has also been insured for the week you did not use it. I'm sure you'd have been very grateful for the auto-renewal had your garage burned down or the car stolen.
Unfortunately (or fortunately if you forget!), it's a standard procedure for companies to renew unless you tell them otherwise.
I don't think you'll get your full amount back but if you do then it'll be a goodwill gesture because the company doesn't need to.
Good luck anyway.
