letter from halifax

Following my previous thread I thought I would just keep you informed as to what happened with the Halifax after me going in regarding keeping my account open and I cannot believe what I saw when I checked my online account to see if they had closed it yet and there was a letter there confirming what the person who I saw said. I cannot believe what or why this has happened - could they have choosen to adopt a more friendly approach to BR????? I very much doubt it but where do I stand with regards to the OR when he eventually contacts me?

The below is what the letter said!!!

Sorry i didn't see your previous thread but its probably best to send a letter to Halifax stating that you never requested an OD, just an enquiry about your account.

Keep a letter for your records, just in case its needed.

Just explain the situation to your OR as simply as you have to us, and also include that you have sent them a letter stating you never asked for an OD in the first place, and that you will forward a copy to the OR if they require it.

Just be as honest and open as possible with the OR.

Don't worry, this is just a clerical error and shouldn't be deemed as anything untoward.

Also say that you have now opened a new basic account with Barclays that you intend to use during your BR period.

    Good Morning worriedsick,

This is just one of those things that has happened and the "system" hasn't yet identified the obvious! I am not sure if the guy knew what he was doing when he initially gave you the o/d or whether he was genuinely trying to help you.
Either way, I don't see you being in any sort of bovver with the OR. As Costus says, just explain it to the OR exactly as it happened.
You'll be fine, I am sure, and congrats on the Barclays account - I am off there tomorrow.

    Best Wishes

Hi worriedsick, sorry to tell you but this will be a mistake on Halifaxs behalf. Far from being BR friendly, if they get a sniff you are BR they will freeze your account. You then get a letter saying it is not their policy to keep accounts open if you are BR. The info they get is from the London Gazette. If you have your salary,- monies paid into Halifax, move them else where while you still can.

You will have had the letter because of the time difference.

Halifax (apart from the man you spoke to) do not yet fully know about your BR. It will not have passed through their systems and out the other end. So the man in the branch who knows nothing about BR has simply tapped in an OD request and cos you are a good customer (according to their now out of date records), the OD was approved. Once it started, it couldn't be stopped.

Once the £600 is put back in, phone them and tell them of their error. The call centre staff should have a better idea of BR.
  • thanks everybody for your advice - am just waiting now for a letter from Halifax saying they have closed my account - another strange letter arrived today from a company called Bankruptcy Resolutions offering to help me keep my house and sorted outing my creditors and offering to cancel my BR - never heard of this company nor can I understand where they got my details from as I only went BR on monday - cannot understand where they got my address from unless it was from the BR site where I am now officially listed as being BR but it still seems quick work - has anybody else heard of this company - they are more or less saying they will clear the debts of the creditors and make me solvent again - obviously a scam
