  • So do I do this first and then enable the router (by doing the same as to disable it) , wire it up and away we go?

Yes, just for test purposes. Just to be clear, you're disabling the wireless adapter in your _laptop_, not the wireless part of the router.

Also, log in to your router's configuration screens. What does it say for Internet Status (on top right-hand corner)?
  • Yep, I'm ok on the disabling it from the laptop part.

I can't get as far as logging in to the configuration screens - as soon as I plug the router in - I can't get broadband. The manual they have provided shows the screens I should see - but I cant get that far!
  • So if you click here ---> http://192.168.2.1 (no password) you can't see the router?

Even without a broadband connection you should be able to see the router's screens.
  • nope, get redirected to Dell search page!
  • Try typing 192.168.2.1 (no http://) in the Internet Explorer address bar and pressing return.
  • same thing happens!

    Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.
  • If I am on using the internet through my BT modem, I can use the internet no probs but can't do the 192. thingey - I just get a search engine.

If I am trying to work with the router - I cannot get a broadband connection.

Its madness - whatever happened to plug and play??!!
  • Open Network Connections (see first para of post #11) right-click Local Area Connection and click Properties. On the General tab, in the Connection uses box, double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and click OK all the way out.
