The FSA has a website with a section on this: http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/HTML/en/products/bank_accounts/basic_bank_accounts_popup.htm
Out of those, Barclays and the Co-Op are the more lenient of the lot. For this level of account, you're going to find most offerings very similar - so choose the most convenient bank for you, etc. What would William Shatner do?0 -
Nationwide had a cash card account a few years ago but have stopped doing it. I got one then and it is brilliant. I did a search recently on moneysavingexpert as I was trying to find a similar one for my friend and Lloyds had one but in view of the current climate with them, I would go for the Co-op! They are sometimes not advertised on websites - might be worth ringing them and checking. Tell them you don't want a debit card, or cheque book - just a cash card and no credit checks and hopefully they will be able to offer your mum something. good luck.0
