Natwest Have Closed My Account.

I went to use my online banking today and noticed my account wouldn't show. So I visited the bank to be told that they closed my account on Friday because of an overdraft on an old joint account that hadn't been paid off yet, so they closed my separate account without any notification.
So after explaining to the bank that this was a separate account I'd been running without problem for over a year and that I had funds in that account. They told me that I could possibly obtain my funds on friday by going back to the bank and getting a member of staff to contact Head Office for approval, then go elsewhere for an account.
Can they just close your account without notifying you whatsoever?
I've been left with no money until they agree to give me access to my funds and having to contact companies including my mortgage company to explain why I can't pay them on time.

Yes, they can.
Anyway, was it just an overdraft within an agreed limit? What would William Shatner do?0 -
No it was just out of the limit. But I'm surprised they closed my own personal account that had been running in the black since I opened it because of this other account.0

unfortunately they can. it would be in the terms and conditions of the other account I assume. Try and agree something with them - they might suggest a loan to pay back overdraft and un-freeze your account.0

Are they not supposed to give 30 days notice of closure in writing?Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

I thought they had to inform you of their intentions to give you a heads up so you can reorganise direct debits, etc to be transferred into a new account.
Because of this my money is currently frozen and I've got no access to any money until they decide I can have my money back. But this has left me in an awkward situation as I've now got to look for a new bank, re-sort all my direct debits and try to get work to pay me as the cut off date for any account changes have passed.
As for trying to sort anything with them, they didn't want to know. I was told to return friday to see about getting my money back and take my business elsewhere.0
