Mira Sport Shower

Hi there,
I moved into a house in May and have inherited a Mira Sport shower. I've had hese in the past and liked them. The water pressure up in the bathroom is fairly good, but the shower is apallingly bad, especially in the winter. There's no pressure as all the power seems to go on trying to heat the water, which it's not! It's baths for me at the moment as it's just too cold.
I was thinking of just trying to replace with another Mira Sport Shower, as I'm going to be redoing the bathroom in the next couple of years. This would save on any plumbing etc. How do I know what voltage to get? Can I get any voltage?
Hope that all makes sense!
Help appreciated.
Cheers

I assume you have a standard boiler ( as opposed to combi ) and the shower is electric ? If so, then you should be able to replace the shower unit. It's Wattage not Voltage you need to look at - a 10.5 Kw shower will give you hotter / faster water than a 7 Kw shower.0

Be careful just changing your shower if you are thinking of changing the model. You need to check that the power cable for the shower is sufficient for a more powerful model.0

All showers are standard UK voltage, do you mean Watts?0 -
i must mean watts iNACTIVE & EBE SCROOGE. Thanks for that. I;m not sure what wattage my shower has as there are no markings other than 'mira sport'.
I do indeed have a standard boiler but am changing to a combi one in a couple of weeks. i thought about buying a mixer shower just now but they are a bit pricey and I would have to get some work done on the plumbing. I'm not planning on remodeling the bathroom for a couple of years although I really wish i had the cash to do it now.
I'm having my house rewired in a couple of weeks so i guess i should just speak to my electrician about just replacing the cable - thanks latecomer.0 -
On the sport there is usually a low/medium/high setting - it will need to be on high this time of year. If it is and its still no good, I'd guess its gunged up with limescale. Not sure all sports are them same, but the one I have is 9.5Kw and it works fine.
Its worth descaling the shower head holes (soak in limelight then rinse well)0 -

Hi LORIAN thanks for reply, the shower setting is on high and really only dribbling out cold water and in scotland we don't seem to have a limescale problem but will give the soaking a shot before forking out on a new shower. I'm sure the shower was very good in it's day but just been installed for quite a while.

Sounds like the heater element has gone. Happened to me a few months ago on a Mira Sport. Only thing to do is replace the whole unit. Swap it for one requiring the same cable rating so that you don't have to put completely new wiring in (i.e. the 10mm cable for the higher wattage showers) Not sure where this fits in terms of part P regs. Maybe somebody else can answer that.0

These showers seem to have a sensor that shuts the power down if the flow is obstructed. If, as you say, the flow is very poor then possibly that is what has happened. The wattage might well be on a plate inside the shower unit. As has been said already, you need to find out either the cable size or the wattage of the existing shower so that you do not need to alter the wiring if you swap for a new unit. Are you in a hard water area?.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
