How do I find a cheap but good Photographer?

I am getting married in July midweek in Lincolnshire. Being the second wedding for both of us, we are have a very simple registry office ceremony with about 20 guests. I was looking for someone to take photograph before and during the ceremony and afterwards in the registry office's garden. Total time about 1 hour. I am looking for a handfull of good quality photos to capture our marriage; without having to budget a fortune for photos IYSWIM.
I am struggling to find a photographer that charges less than £600:eek: for this. Some photographers won't even come out for a registry marriage
- I guess it's not as profitable as church weddings with all the fanfare.
Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi there,
I'm in Nottinghamshire and have the details of a great photographer who is really resonable (and I mean really!)
I'm not sure if she would travel to Lincolnshire but it's worth a try as it's not too far.
I'm having her from the morning at my house until first dance, with a basic album thrown in for around £450!
I was quoted £2000-£3000 for the same service from other companies!
I am actually having a nicer album done by her too but she will do this not much more than cost price and you still get the other album.
If you would like her number please PM me!
Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j

Hi, I'm also looking for a photographer in Lincolnshire, however, for June 2010. The cheapest I have found so far is http://www.haywoodjonesphotography.com/page5.htm.
Hope that's some help
If I find anyone else, I'll be sure to let you know.0 -

Try asking your local photographic club as they may have someone willing to take some pictures for you. Most good photographers charge, however, if you find a photographer you like (ie. look at their pictures and see if you like them) see if you can get a quote. Another alternative would be to check out your local college as they may well have photography students there who may also be able to help out.
Failing that get some disposable cameras and ask guests to take photographs.

Hi, I had the same problem as you (although it was 2 years ago). I found my photographer on Hitched.co.uk through the forum. She was just starting out and only had a portfolio of about 2 weddings and a couple of other events. I think she cost us £600 and we got 80 printed photos 9x6 and a CD with Hi Res photos of every single (bar the ones with people eyes shut etc) photo on. I then made my own photobook through photobox. She now charges £1000 for a similar package now she's more established.
My point is try to get someone who's starting out? It is a bit of a gamble, but when on a budget you have to make some compromises.
I would suggest not relying on disposable cameras or guests taking photos. I was quite disappointed at the lack of photos my friends and family took. I also had 10 disposable cameras and although it was worth it for a couple of great shots, 90% of them were rubbish. One whole film was a complete waste because the table didn't use the flash

I may be able to do your photography for £150 plus 40p a mile travel, and images on disk, may also be able to print on the day. not sure about advertising rules on forum, but you can sen me a private message or search for gtphotos
If you read the top of the page you will see that you are not allowed to advertise your business on here, nor are you allowed to solicit business by asking people to send you a PM with their personal details:

Thanks for all the suggestions pepys.
After talking it over with H2B (and taking into account helping_hubby's comments) we have decided to ask a few guest we know that have fancy cameras to take some pictures and ofcourse the other guests will aswell. If no good shots come out, then after our honeymoon we will get a formal portrait done by a professional; and get a couple of good photos that way without the fuss and expense.
I am always baffled whenever the word WEDDING is mentioned businesses tack on an extra £!!!!!!! to the cost of it. And then the wedding album usually gets put in a drawer to collect dust.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. if it's any help we paid alot of money for our wedding photos , and they've stayed in a box under our bed for the last 15 years , we have a couple in frames around the house , i would say they are the biggest waste of cash
get some disposables for each table so your guests can take take their own snaps for you ,0 -
Email the head of photography at your local uni to see if he/she could recommend a student or two.
