Norton 360 Advice please

Hi a little question. My son has just purchased norton360 and it says can be installed up to 3 computers so he did one for his laptop, one for his desktop and gave me the third he lives a little way from me so I went on the internet and downloaded it and tried to activate it with my sons code but the system said invalid activation code I double and treble checked it and it was the right one. So thats where you guys come in why wont it work, is it because when I tried to register it i put in my email address and should have put in my sons. Now my son can't remember what account and password he used to register and to be quite honest i think he has much more important things to do at this moment in time. Any advice please from all you clever dicks out there (i mean't that in a nice way don't take offence)
