I stocked up on 6 tins of Yellowfin tuna in spring water on sale (according to sel) at my local Sainsbury's (Cheshire) today for 55p each (200g tin). No idea if this is nationwide.
Just checked and it is selling online at 55p which is a real bargain - guess Sainsburys must be discontinuing them. I'm going back to stock up since yellowfin tuna is usually at least 3/4 times this price. BTW, there is a huge difference in taste and for me, there's no going back to 'normal' tuna.0 -
is there a huge difference between own brand and the more famous brands?sieze the carp0

Our local coop has a deal on at the mo, I recall its a good deal, but dont recall which brand or price!or when it ends.Oh but it is chunks rather than steaks.0

I find tinned tuna varies in quality quite a bit. Some you open and the tuna is just tiny fragments compacted together, some have proper chunks. It's not just about cost to me, the quality is important too. I like the one Lidl do, cant remember the exact price.0

Got some this morning. Got home to put the tins away to find the bottom tins where all bashed up
They had been sat on the back seat of the car all day. So hardly think that it was me.
So will take them back to exchange them tomorrow.
I use to often get john west on offer in multi-pack for 37p a tin. Mind you that was a couple of years ago.

Tesco are selling 3-packs of Princes tuna chunks in oil or brine at the moment for £1.99 which is not a bad deal. Really cheap tuna tends to be in flakes, which is fine for the cats or for sandwich fillings but a bit urgh to eat in salads. The £1.99 reduction is supposed to be 1/2 price though!!!
If you buy tuna as a treat for cats, the best type is in sunflower oil. A small tin once a week puts a lovely shine on their fur.Val.0 -
I'm just surprised they haven't yet started to list the amount of pollutant mercury in tins of tuna, what with the current "warning; this packet of nuts might contain nuts" mentality. Personally tuna is off the menu for this reason.
I know what you are saying, however, there is apparently more mercury in fresh tuna than in canned. Why I do not know.0 -
just spotted princes tuna on tesco site 4 tins for 1.99
i think!thats right.0 -
costco 10 x john west 180g cans £4.50 ish
In the Reading branch of Costco today they had the 10 cans for £4.50 (had "special offer" written on the packaging), but on the next shelf was a pack of 12 cans for the same price. Everyone was picking up the 10 pack as I think they were drawn to the special offer label. HTH.0
