John Lewis Washing Machine

Hi
I am looking for a new washing machine as my Hotpoint has given up. I will definitely not be buying another Hotpoint or similar make being produced from the same group. I have been searching the internet for advice and have found some good reccomendations however I still cannot make up my mind between the Miele (reliable but expensive to repair) Bosch ( some good reccomendations but also a few saying not as good as they useed to be) or the John Lewis own brand ( can't see any cons )
My instinct is telling me to go with the John Lewis machine as it comes with a three year guarantee, is made by Zannussi, has good spec and is a good price. Not to mentrion the quality service John Lewis is famous for.
I was just wondering if anyone on here has a John Lewis machine it would be nice to hear your views.

washerhelp thinks they are good - the JLWM1203 is one of their recommended machines.

He also rates John Lewis as the best place to buy a machine :D

edit.....any washing machine, not just their own brand!
  • Would you consider looking into a repair for your machine?

My brother had his Hotpoint washer fixed with a company called Repair Care. I haven’t used them but he said they were pretty good and not too expensive. Might be worth a call. The’ve got a website I think... www.repaircare.co.uk

Thanks for your replies, yes sooz I've been on that website, its realy good. My dh has had a look and say's that it will probably cost nearly £200 to fix so I wouldn't even consider that.
I thought I had made my mind up to go with the John Lewis machine but now I've been comparing it's spec with the Zanussi zwf070w1 and the zw12370w and the spec's are almost the same but the Zanussi is cheaper. Now I'm even more confused!
I'll let you know what I eventially decide on.

I'm 99% sure that John Lewis Appliances are rebranded Zanussi products. No bad thing.

Don't bother repairing the Hotpoint. Buying one is mistake No1 but, repairing one is just money down the drain. Exactly how Hotpoint intend making money from you, either that or hoping you'll be fooled into buying a Indes*it.

I would recommend Bosch, Zannusi or Electrolux. If you can spare the cash a Miele.

Yes John Lewis products are made by Zanussi, thats why I'm pondering.
I would keep well clear of Hotpoint, hoover, indesit and most of the cheaper machines. They are all made by Candy and not made to repair nowadays. The parts are too expensive.

    Hi Kats, Just to clarify,

Hotpoint and Indesit are the same group
Hoover and Candy are the same group

    These two groups are pants

Electrolux and Zanussi and the same group and I would recommend.

In your shoes, I'd go with the Zanussi Badged being cheaper.

Not sure if you have tried this website: http://www.appliances.co.uk/washing-machines.html

You might find what you want a little cheaper.

I have a ten year old Zanussi, in that time I have had 2 kids and it gets used for 5-6 loads of washing a week. It has never had a fault, although the filter was blocked once, it turned out there was a cloth breast pad stuck in there which must have been there for 5+ years since I finished feeding the last baby. I dont think the repairman knew what it was though!!! the only problem with it is that the front has broken off the powder drawer which is a pain. I have thought of replacing it as it is only an 800 rpm spin, and a faster spin machine would get the clothes drier, but a newer machine may not be as reliable...

In over 20 years I have only ever had 2 washing mashines both hotpoint. Got 3 kids into football and the like. I have had hardly any trouble over the years, though mine has finally given up the ghost but i would still have another. Their dishwashers though i am not so sure.
My mum has a hotpoint like mine and has had it for about 10 years she has been doing a lot of my washing recently and has had little done re repairs.

    HI kats,

This article I wrote may shed a little light for you.

Of what's out there it really depends on what you want to spend but all too often these days at any particular price point it will often come down to a choice of three or four manufacturers, perhaps five or six at best in reality. The name on the box often means little, especially at the budget end of the market.

John Lewis are rebranded Electrolux Group products which, IMO, are not what they were even 10 years or so ago.
