Egypt visa procedure

Options
Hi Im going to Egypt in june and wondered what people knew about the visa system in Egypt. We are going to Sharm, and have no intention of leaving Sharm as we are going for a total relax. However, our travel agent recommended buying the visas just in case. I believe these are about £20 per person, which to me seems a waste. Do you get pestered to get a visa at the airport in Sharm? Ive read in places that you do. With 2 kids I just want the destination airport to be a breeze... I know its hardly likely, but at least would like to be prepared!

Any help or advice appreciated.

If you have absolutely no intention of leaving the Sinai peninsula then these are not needed, however, if you want to go on some snorkelling trips then these are needed. We weren't pestered at all, in fact it was the opposite!

You only need to buy a visa if you are leaving the area - I'm sure you could get them if you decided on a trip. In any case you just get them from a booth at the airport, they are $15 or £12.50 - I'm taking a few dollars for our visas at Luxor.
Don't change your money before you go - you get more by changing sterling out there, even at the hotels, which normally have a machine in the lobby.
I suggest you look at the trip advisor Sharm forum - very useful.

Been to Sham lots of times and never bought a visa. You only need one if you are thinking of travelling outside Sharm. If you are going to be staying around your hotel and maybe a visit or two to Naama Bay then you don`t need one.

When you get off the plane at Sharm, the agents will direct you towards a visa/bank type window, this is for you to get a visa. Just ignor this queue and stick to your guns that you won`t need one (lots of holiday makers get stung this way) go straight to passport control. We only tend to use the little banks in the airport if we need some Egyptian Pounds.

    Have a great holiday.
  • Thanks all. Very much appreciated and very helpful.;)
  • Hi on your landing cards write Sinai only on the back of them and head for immigration. You will be able to stay for 14 days without paying for the visa. If you are staying longer and are not leaving Sinai then you will need to buy one.

We did as well, but don`t need them for Sharm if you are staying around the hotel and in Naama Bay.
