Co-op ISA - UPDATE
Comments
-
I had the coop basic bank account due to my BR. Even a couple of years after discharge they refused me a current account and an ISA... I see the logic of refusing a BR any means of incurring debt. Why would a discharged bankrupt be refused any means of saving money? Surely that should be encouraged? Or am I missing something?
Has anyone been to the ombudsman or whatever about this?

I think it would be a worthwhile question to the ombudsman but as the government who are supposed to be sorting this mess put us in it in the first place why they have not helped people after BR i dont understand now they are running at least 1 bank.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

Well, what do you know, I got a big fat NO!
No suprise there at all, perhaps I sould contact Co-op Man and tell him, there is nothing worse than BRAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
The person you spoke to is actually targeted on how many people he can get to apply regardles if it is accepted or not. He is just trying to get you to apply to appease his manager more likely. Speaking from experiance working in a banks call centre.0

Hi Peachy. Dalip was referring to me. I rang co-op yeasterday as I couldn't log on to internet banking, that was sorted quickly. He then asked me if I would be interested in an ISA. I said I opened account with a view to going BR soon. He said it didn't matter, I would be eligable. I said I would look into in the future, although I would wait until I'm discharged. I was concerned that although his customer service was excellent he may not have 100% knowledge on the matter. I may apply after I've been discharged in the distant future, so will see what happens there. It seems logical to me though that a BR would want to start saving after having no money to even think about saving for the future.0

Co-Op let me open a Cash Minder Account with no trouble but NO to an ISA!
I just wanted to put a few regular pennies away and get interest (CM doesn't give any)
Perhaps the banks are told to let people open a Basic Account but others????0 -
thing is they dont expect a bankrupt to have any spare cash to save! :rolleyes:We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

Now discharged from BR I am still refused an ISA.
Co-Op said they do a credit check/search on all new account openings and that is why!! She said it could be a 6 year hiccup and if apply to another bank they could see a previous search/have the same criteria!!!0
