free smoke alarm? Help

How do i go about getting a free smoke alarm (fitted) for my mother (shes 59) but has had a serious operation so is not mobile I heard something about the fire service but who would i ring?

called them and they came round last week.. only a week after ringing.. 3 very nice men who fitted 2 alarms for free (made no mess) and gave her a quick but thorough talk on fire safety..... very impressed!

(ps.. just called my local firestation from the number in the yellowpages and was put through to the fire prevention department)
