60+ KWh per day!?

How can we be using more than 60KWh in a day? This is for a 4 bed semi with 3 occupants. No more than average appliances, do you think that it could be a (very) faulty meter? The bill we have just had is for about 4 months and is nearly £700!

    I think either:

    - faulty immersion heater
    - storage heaters being used
    - bill is based on estimated reading(s)
  • The immersion heater has been physically disconnected, we sent them readings and there arn't any storage heaters in the place.

But is the bill based on accurate readings?

If so, it does look as if something is wrong.
  • When we spoke to the supplier they estimated that we should be using about 14-16KWh a day but as far as I am aware the bills are accurate to the meter readings.
Would it be worth investing in an energy monitor?

is your property heated by electic or gas?
we live in a badly insulated two bed flat that's all electric (wall heaters) and we use that sort of amount (during the coldest months)
but then our usage drops down to 10-15 kwh per day in summer
however if you have gas for heatin then that does sound high
is your heating electric/gas? If electric what sort of heating?

    what appliances do you have?
do you use tumble dryers a lot?
do you have old, inefficient fridge freezer(s)?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • It's gas heating with 1 2kw heater but thats only on when we really need it. We have all A rated appliances the washing machine and tumble dryer are used when needed but thats not all the time .

Look at the readings on the bill - they should be followed by (A) for actual, (C) for cutomer or (E) for estimated.

How long have you lived in the property? Other bills normal? Any estimated? It could just be that you've underpaid for a while and it's caught up with you.

Good idea to read your meter every day for a few days and note daily units used.

Hello, i have the same problem.

I m trying to sort out my parents bills for them, my mum is disabled and my dad is her full time carer.

They are being charged £130 a month for Gas and £120 for elec with British gas, all meter readings are correct and i have checked the imp/metric convesion is correct. The Tarrif also seems about average. Any ideas what i can do next? can energywatch look into it?
