TV licence fee cash guarantees house prices of relocated BBC staff

The BBC will incur any loss on the price when the property is sold and will pay for solicitors' fees, surveys and stamp duty, home information packs and building society charges. ! !

OH's company run a similar scheme - the house is taken off you and you can go ahead and buy your new house - all expenses paid, including the soft furnishing allowance. Plus an interest free loan.
When we moved to the south east, from Scotland every thing was paid for, we got an interest free loan to help with the mortgage, repayable over 10 years - plus we got a "rent allowance" which started off quite high, and decreased every month in value over 10 years.
It's nothing that normally any big corporation or company don't do. The taking the house off your hands is a relatively new thing in OH's company, when we did a company move that wasn't available. But every thing else was - and that was 20 years ago.0 -
But what you have forgotten is that we hate the BBC and the Licence fee. Whereas we love the Post Office, but not stamp costs. And we love Woollies, but don't shop there. We hate !!!!!!'s but we also hate Social Worker's. We love Richard Branson but hate Virgin Trains.baileysbattlebus wrote: »sensible non headline grabbing stuff
And so on, ad nauseum.0 -
Hang on a sec............lets get this straight. The TV Tax is going to BBC staff to cover the costs in moving?
If so should a PUBLIC funded body be able to do that?end the tv tax0 -
What a genius idea it all was.
Build a new BBC centre in the North, and expect the BBC staff who live in London, many of whom only know London and have their homes, friends and family there...
..would happily uproot and come to work in the paradise of Salford or wherever the new BBC building is.
Brilliant plan. No wonder licence-payer money is required for these mega-incentives to encourage them to move, but I don't see why they can't just train new staff who already live in the North.

It's hardly groundbreaking, is it? Most big corporations do the same thing, with multinational ones paying boarding school fees etc for offspring when the parents are moving abroad. My parents had relocation packages every time we moved, abroad or in the UK.
When we were looking at buying a house we saw 3 that were for sale by an agency after the previous owner had taken a relocation package. It meant no chain, the houses were all well maintaned, and it meant room for negotiation on price. Sadly they weren't in our preferred few streets, but these sorts of house sales can be good for buyers.0 -

Indeed it is.0 -
Why are they wasting so much money to move in the first place?0

Ahh, that's a better question.
I believe it was some mental idea about being more 'inclusive' and 'regional'. The BBC love all this type of stuff, but they always get it wrong. It's like watching your parents trying to be young and groovy in front of your friends when you were 15.
Personally I couldn't care less whether programmes are broadcasted from London, Salford or the moon.
However, as they have made this stupid decision they are now correct in offering their staff competitive moving incentives like any other major organisation.0
