  • If anyone has the full brand name for the GSK version (PM me) I'll look it up for you to see if it has been discontinued.

I'm actually allergic to E211, so I understand your frustration!

I was prescribed amoxycillin a few months ago, took it home, realised it had E211 in it, called the pharmacist and she said she'd swap it for a different amoxycillin (one was sugar free, the other wasn't) which definitely didn't have any E211 in it.

Took it home (again, no time to check!) and it didn't have E211 in the ingredients sure enough... but it had sodium benzoate listed.

I do believe in the end I got some pills to take which were absolutely foul tasting, but that had no sodium benzoate in them. So there is an alternative. Only thing is, I'm not sure how well a 2 year old would be able to manage pills instead of liquid!
  • My ds2 just had amoxicillin for an ear infection and it was colour free, sugar free version - made up at supermarket pharmacy so it must be out there. It annoys me that all the cold and flu remedies sold contain artificial colours as well.

I was so awkward about liquid medicines (bleh! bleh!) mum used to have to ask for tablets for me.

Surely tablets not designed to be tasted wouldn't have all the yucky additives? Might be a bit more of a chore getting them swallowed... but might be worth a try...
    My TV is broken!

A friend of mine has to give her son daily medication for a condition he has, and he has to take tablets, as he is only very young he has to have them crushed between two spoons, then a medicine syringe full of water mixed with the powder in a glass then given in the syringe! Pain in the bum but as he has to have them it's by the by!

    HtH. :)
