in Credit cards
I have just purchased a £600 cooker from Empire Direct on Saturday 17 January 2009. Took out their extended warranty. Paid for whole deal by credit card. Collected and accepted the goods. No problems. The company have gone into administration today, Monday 19 January 2009. Can I reclaim my payment from my credit card company, i.e. HSBC?

Is this extended warranty not through a third party?0

No the extended warranty is their warranty. I'm sure that I have read a Martin Lewis article that said this is possible, but cannot remember where I read it.0

The extended warranty is with Empire Direct and is called their edXtra policy and is a to their membership scheme0

are these schemes not protected if a company goes bust at all?0

Mmm. I don't think they are but maybe someone else could shed light.
This is also bothering me, too, because PC World may go into administration soonish. I was alerted to this by someone a few months ago and the signs are there now it could happen. Basically, like yourself, I got a new PC. Then I heard about them being in trouble. Then began to worry about if anything went wrong, would it be covered?Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

PCWorld in trouble? EVERY bsuiness on the high street has got new pressures. I was in PCWorld and Currys last week and they look busy to me.
Empire Direct's policy may well be insured/guaranteed and a look at the policy will give you the answer.0 -
If u paid by Credit Card or Credit terms, the 3 yr warranty will be covered by this.........obviously its gonna be a bit of hassle doing it , thou.0

Nice how companies like this go into administration so easily, yet I was outside the Leeds branch on Sunday and there was a nice brand new Bentley parked outside with the private plate EMPIRE, or made up to look like that at least.0

So did Woolsworth before it went into administration. PC World has recently closed several of it's stores due to 'econonomic downturns'. I could be wrong, but I have heard it now from two very different sources who don't know each other. And, yes, tragically, every business on the high street right through to you/me at home is in trouble right now. Let us hope it does not get worse.
Somebody I know bought a new kitchen from MFI and they promptly went into administration straight after.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
