Empire Direct Warranty?

It has been announced today that Empire Direct are no longer trading.
I have just bought a TV from them because it came with a 5 year warranty... now my TV has already been delivered unlike many customers, which is a start, however I assume the warranty is with Empire Direct rather than with the manufacturer?
As such, what happens if my TV breaks within the manufacturers warranty period?
Who can I take it to?
How do things stand with respect to the extended warranty with Empire Direct?

It will automatically have a 12 month warranty with the manufacturer, and this will still be valid despite the collapse of ED. But the extended warranty may not be valid anymore, after all you cannot deal with a company that no longer exists

Did you pay the the extra extended warranty or was it free with the TV?We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Technically it was "free" though I paid more to get it from ED so I would have the warranty...It will automatically have a 12 month warranty with the manufacturer, and this will still be valid despite the collapse of ED. I would have paid less elsewhere if I'd known I was only going to have the manufacturers warranty anyway :rolleyes:0 -
Is the warranty with another company ?
When i bought my TV from a local retailer it had a 5yr warranty and it was covered by Domestic and General
EDIT: Seems its underwritten by themselves

When I bought a TV from ED I got the EDEextra card for £20 if I recall which gave an addition 2 years warranty which was their own and not with Domestic and General and the like.
I'm assuming its now worthless. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
For anybody in the Midlands area that's had their TV taken by an Empire Direct engineer for repair in recent weeks, it'll almost certainly be at Yorkshire Multimedia Services, Unit 3, Factory Street, Bradford, BD4 9NW. Tel: 01274688877. Hopefully this information can help somebody retrieve theirs.0

Not particularly helpful for the past, but for anybody concerned about these warranties two things to consider for the future:-
1) If you buy with certain credit cards (I have a Nat West one which does this) you can register 6 items per year (provided they @ between GBP75 - GBP2000) that you have bought on the card for an extra 1-2 years free warranty after the manufacturers has expired (you have to register within 90 days I think from purchase date) This is actually administered by domestic general - so you can then buy at the best price and get between 2-3 years warranty - and if its important you can still renew it after that.
2) John Lewis always offer 2 -5 year warranties - with price match of course (they could of course also go bust - although unlikely in my mind)0 -

just called panny & they have confirmed that the warranty is valid, thought it was as it came direct from panasonic, best to check though as on the back of the warranty it says to contact the retailer first, everythings fine though, phew!0
