You haven't used a lot of hot water, or accidentally left the boiler on overnight? Otherwise it's taken some money for a debt/ emergency credit, or for a standing charge, or the £5 never registered and you have just run out of the previous credit. Did you take your card/ key to somewhere reputable? There have been stories on here of crooked shopkeepers.

I think your emergency credit has been replaced and so you got very little gas for your last credit.

It seems that 70% of a credit can be used to cover debts or replenish emergency credit. So if you've used the emergency, you may only get £1.50 from the fiver to use until you have repaid all the emergency.
  • thats great thanks for clearing that up for me
to be honest it is the first time i have used the emergancy credit in the three years i have been here and was not too sure how it worked

i just assumed it was like my s/elec electric key meter where say i put £10 on it takes £5 for emergancy credit then i get £5 on my normal credit

anyway thanks again to all who replied
