Hi,
please dont shoot me down in flames and i hope im not asking an illegal question,
......but the filter settings have been changed at work ( by head office not us) and certain sites are now blocked ...... including mse!!
I understand that sometimes people can get round filters by using a proxy, is there one that works so that i can access mse?
many thanks

Google for a decent free proxy and if your Network administrator has not locked down your workstation too much go in to Internet Explorer tools menu and specify the proxy address in there.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

And then explain why you did it at the disciplinary hearing!
It might be better trying to get access to MSE re-instated. Presumably your company has some sor of policy where you can request access to websites that are blocked? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

If the IT Manager has not implemented a Group Policy to deal with this then it will be he whom gets a disciplinary hearing, I have set restrictions on internet settings from Active Directory Group Policy objects for all of the PC's and Laptops at work so there is no way to bypass our Security Appliance.BillScarab wrote: »And then explain why you did it at the disciplinary hearing!
If I fail to enforce company policy on our network it is I who gets the stick, not the employee - unless he/she "hacks" the IT System which is extremely unlikely.

please don't risk your job by using a proxy to get on MSE.

At our place it's the employee who broke the rules who would get it. We all have to sign a Code of Conduct covering things like Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking, Firearms (it's an American Company) and Internet Use.
As it's a Telecoms company that employs a lot of network specialists and IT specialists it would be hard to stop us if we really wanted to though. It's my problem, it's my problem

Im not shooting you done but if you get caught you may be in trouble for using a proxy, if your so addicted to it then buy an iphone and access mse on your break0

Unless it specifies in your employee handbook "No use of web proxies" it would be hard to back up in court and the employee would probably win the case, in our std T&C's it states that staff will be monitored by any means electronically, however by not allowing them the chance to change anything then both parties are protected.
Even if they managed to download a third party browser like Fire-Fox and setup proxy through there, they would still be blocked as our Security Appliance is transparent to all traffic i.e. any HTTP, HTTPS traffic is forced through our kit.
