I have been offered an Ipod cheap but no cables paperwork etc with it how can I test to make sure it is working ok, there is no power and no power charger what checks can I make to ensure I'm not buying a dud as it is second hand.

Can I test with a standard charger so long as connection to dc fits? I have a 3v adaptor

I take it IPods don't work on conventional batteries then? The wife's Sony MD works with both the rechargable / ordinary batteries?

I know absolutely nothing about them but can see no access hatch for batteries and know it has internal battery so assume only internal

The obvious question first - why is somebody offering you an iPod with no charger? Sounds a bit sus to me.

You can buy the charger and leads once you get the iPod though - I can't see how you could use any ordinary DC charger though, as the iPod is charged through its dock connector on the bottom, which is proprietary. Just buy the Apple charger, or a car charger or USB charger from Belkin (do a search on eBay).

iPods dont work with standard batteries. They are charged via:
    • Charger
    • USB
    • Firewire

Its basically a hard drive. It uses its own type of connector, which is converted to USB, Firewire, or Firewire + plug adapter mod.

Look around shops, etc for a plug/cable for the iPod, or even better, visit the Apple Store and search for iPod plugs/cables there.
