Financial Difficulty - reclaiming charges when bank has passed debt to recovery agent

Hi, I need some help!
I separated from my husband about a year and a half ago which resulted in me getting into some financial difficulty. I was still paying all same amounts of bills etc but only had 1 income to work off. This resulted in my Barclays account becoming overdrawn. They kept increasing it at first until I was at a £500 allowed overdraft. It was here were I started spiralling out of control. I could not get back into the black, whatever I did and was getting charged daily and every time a debit came out for a bill. The letters were arriving everyday but I had no other funds to get me out of the red.
I reached the point where I had to move to another Bank account just so I could get to my wage (Net £930)
I started receiving really abusive calls from Barclay’s collections. When I would ask fro advice none was given and when I tried to discuss my case the phone was hung up (This happened 3 times!)
I eventually spoke to someone who set up faxed my branch to go about setting up an appointment - the branch never responded and I went through this process 5 times unsuccessfully.
The next time I spoke to collections about this I was told I was given the wrong advice and not to contact Barclays again...aggghhh!
It has now been passed to Credit Solutions who call me at least 5 times a day and offer no help what so ever.
Before I left Barclays I requested a breakdown of my charges - they total £1759, this was built up over a period of not even 2 years. I need to know how to claim my charges back from Barclays if Credit Solutions now have the debt - the debt is £1250

Thanks

For your time

  • Read Martin's reclaiming guide and follow that to get the charges back. Really easy.

For debt help, suggest you post questions in that section of the forum rather than here - you will get more support.

You'd reclaim the charges direct from Barclays and tell Credit support the entire balance of the debt is in dispute.

Not sure if you would meet the hardship criteria but in your letter to barclays it would be worth spelling out your situation and including an income expenditure sheet.

and always try and do things in writing, not the phone....leaves a paper trail and removes most of the he said she said stuff further down the line.
