Advice on my rights please, faulty microwave

I received a microwave for Christmas, a Kenwood sjsb21. The lcd lights on the display are stopping working, Ive had the microwave on and working for 2 weeks and 2 lights are out already. The problem is, this microwave was bought for me as a gift, and I believe it might have been purchased some time ago, possibly early last year or even before. I do not have a receipt and its unlikely the purchaser still has it (although I havent yet asked).
I have read somewhere on these forums that someone else had the same problem and that they believed this product had been recalled, though when I just Currys about it they say it hasnt been recalled. Kenwood do not deal with Kenwood microwaves (!) and told me to call currys.
So basically, although the microwave has only been in use for 2 weeks, currys will go by the purchase date, whenever that was, but as it is faulty do I have any rights to take it back? And without a receipt? Thanks

I think you will have to bite the bullet and have a word with the present giver. A receipt is not always necessary if they can provethe payment from a cc or debit card statement. If they bought it between last January and this you could at least claim a repair. Otherwise, i think you are stuffed.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You probably contacted the wrong Kenwood, there are 2, one that makes kitchen appliances, the other makes Hi Fi Equipment etc.
The one that you need is;

Thanks, yes I will have to ask if the buyer has a receipt.
The Kenwood website link above is the one I rang, it does say on their website on the faq page that for problems with Kenwood microwaves, call Currys as this is not a product made by Kenwood.
And Currys told me to call Kenwood!0 -
It looks like this item was a " one off " produced just for the Currys Group, it was on offer by Currys for £50 and then Dixons ( same group ) for £39.97 ( June 08 ) last year.
Kenwood is part of the De Longhi Group, you could try them for help.0 -
You might try registering the guarantee with Kenwood form the date given to you asa gift, then waiting a couple of weeks and claiming. If you purchase a new build flat with appliances you can register from the date you took occupation, no reciept needed. Maybe the same with gifts?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

The OP has already stated that she/he doesn't have a receipt, it was a gift.
As I said
"If you purchase a new build flat with appliances you can register from the date you took occupation, no receipt needed. Maybe the same with gifts?"
It's surely worth a shot?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Hi, did you get this resolved? I'm trying to sort a similar issue with Currys about this product and the store is claiming not to know anything about the recall
