That reminds be... didn't the BoS once have a rule whereby anyone presenting a counterfeit note at the Head Office would be given a real one in return? I seem to remember there being something about it in one of the museums in Edinburgh. It may have been a long time ago but that would explain any large percentage of fake note relative to other countries!

Alex Salmond would go ape if they were withdrawn. Its almost worth it just to irritate him.

Totally agree, he lives in Brigadoon you know.
Some of the nonsense he spouted yesterday about RBS paying back the Govt cash injection over time and re-establishing itself as a financial leader in due course was hilarious.

Not hilarious to those of us who live in Scotland outwith the central belt, and suffer from the self serving Nats and their policies (or lack of them)!

Alex does so much for English/Scottish relations.

I would say most Scots and English enjoy the friendly banter. Except when it comes to sport when the English treat the scottish as a second team to support and the Scottish want England to lose....badly.

However, AS comes across very anti English. He does more to damage English/Scottish relations in my opinion

    Too true. ;)

My husband (who was from Birmingham) could never quite understand why his beloved wife and sons always supported whoever England was playing against whilst he happily (or at least so he said) supported Scotland when they played.

I think it might be something to do with calling our sports "stars" British when they win and Scottish when they lose. ;)

It's a very long time since I had a Scottish bank note refused in England......1973 IIRC. Even (northern) Irish ones are easily accepted most places these days.

I find the worst area for refusal of Scottish banknotes is the West Midlands; Wolverhampton particularly and also down into Shropshire.
