RBS about to implode?

Not being clued up on such things, I have a question. My mortgage is with RBS (well, One Account, but bought out by RBS). What would be the upshot for the typical mortgage holder such as myself (2.5x income mortgage, 50% equity) if it were to become nationalised?
Similarly, what would happen if they went under?
You'd still owe them exactly what you owe them now.0 -
I have to say it crossed my mind when they made NR into a sort of 'closing down bank' why they didn't use it to lend a bit more and accept some more deposits - although I appreciate they didn't want to cause runs on other banks to achieve it. Just domestic and UK small/medium business lending. I just don't understand enough about it to know if it was workable.
I honestly can't understand why we don't just take them all over. They got us into this mess, can't be trusted, and I wonder if there is any worth at all in them except for the ever woolly sentiment 'they must be good businesses in the long term, surely they must, mustn't they?'0 -
  WHAT A GNIKCUF SHAMBLES ?
They should haul the board and senior managers to court  , and have them pay back all the monies that they have been paid to run this sorry PILE OF SH*TE  , if that does not clear the debts (which it won't they should sieze their assets and sell them  , this will send a message that we won't accept these F*CK ups any longer  ), because clearly they have been just PiZZing around for many years  , and now the burden is coming to haunt the general public  , it's an ABSOLUTE GNIKCUF disgrace     , and I'm getting more annoyed everyday with these useless high paid W*ankers   who couldn't get laid in a brothel let alone run multi-billion pound companies.
Mr Clowns & Hs Darlings solution of bailing these T*ATS out isn't working because it's a total mess.
Where have the auditors been, asleep, or kissing up for more contracts ? Why where there no government controls ?
Why was this situation not brought to light 3 years ago ?

LET THEM GO UNDER, YOU MAY AS WELL JUST OPEN A NEW BANK UNDER GOVERNMENT CONTROL FROM THE START, AS THEY ARE NOT PASSING ON THE CREDIT ANYWAY, THIS IS A DISASTER MOVIE GONE WRONG.

The problem is that there has been too many folk sitting on the fence getting paid a fortune when they should have done something about it, many years ago.
Like these triple A investments, from the US, how the F*CK did they get away with that, it does not take a wizard to work out that 3 piles of SH*TE, makes just 1 BIG PILE OF SH*TE.
There has been to many people in high places getting too much cash for short term results, without any fear of longer term consequences. Bankers, Investment bankers, governments, etc etc etc.
What a MESS. :mad:0 -

Because if Woolworths, Officers Club and Zavvi go to the wall it prevents you buying tat, bad clothes and CDs. If all the banks go to the wall our country pretty much stops working. That's why they are different.0 -

Agreed - but why are the banks shares trading on stock markets as if they were just like any other company?--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0
