The main difference is that the DG834G, if that's what you meant, is 54Mbps and the DG834GT 108Mbps; therefore the latter is twice as fast. However those theoretical maximum speeds only apply between computers on your own network, and then only if you have compatible wireless adapters. So you might choose the DG834GT if you do a lot of big file transfers between your computers.

Super-g is never twice as fast. Maybe a 30-50% increase, but realistically not much more.

The DG834GT is an ok router, but as I said is probably more likely to have more problems than your average router. Personally I'd try and get hold of a DG834G version 1. Version 2 and the DG834GT use a different chipset, and it's since then that problems have been occuring.

Well you've bought it now, so it's a bit late for us to say it's useless..

It should be fine, but don't forget to sort out encryption, as this model has a longer range, so even more neighbours will be able to jump on your connection if you don't.

I presume you meant, good buy?

In my experience, Netgear routers are reliable.. I have not used every model in the range, but generally if a problem is found in an earlier model, it will not be present in later models.

Some people report problems with Netgear routers (and all other brands of router). I treat these reports with caution, as problems can be caused by a variety of factors (ISP, mtu, BT, misconfiguration, interference, filters), so it is difficult to say for sure that the router is to blame.

Keep an eye on the Netgear website for firmware updates, as any problems known to Netgear will be usually be fixed by installing the latest firmware.
