I have a Sony VAIO laptop which has now failed.
Symptoms :- it simply refuses to respond in any way whatsoever to the power button, whether on mains power or the battery.
An engineer has taken a look at it and believes it to be a failed mother board and has informed me that it is beyond economical repair.
This machine cost me over £1000 a little over 3 years ago. I would expect better than that from a machine of that cost and quality.
Would I have any chance of pursuing this under the SOGA ?
As an aside I wouldn't be considering this had this been a software issue or had the machine cost me considerably less. And I'm not seeking a refund here, but a repair or replacement of equivalent spec, not similar cost.

I'd say not for something 3 years old. At that age you have to prove that it was a manufacturing fault.
Does the charge light come on when you plug in the charger? If not, it could either be as simple as a faulty charger (ebay has loads of them) or a dry joint on the power socket inside the laptop which many companies will fix for under £100.Conor
