anyone doing cut price connection to bt?

we've been with Virgin since moving house about a year ago. Obviously now near the end of our 12 month contract and they've just removed the promotional rates from our package and its gone up by nearly 40%. I'm going to phone and see if thats the best they can do but was wondering about getting the BT line reconnected.

I know that the standard charge of £122 may apply but it seems like there is no way to know until its been checked by an engineer and as its not been used for at least 12 months I suspect it will be charged. I know in the past there used to be providers who offered cheaper reconnection fee for a BT line but no idea whether thats still the case or not. So does anyone know if this is still offered by any provider?

Thanks in advance!

I seem to recall reading somewhere that BT have an offer on at the moment, it was something like £29, subject to signing a one year contract.

Have a Google and see if you can find it.

thanks for that. no sign of the offer on the BT website but I'll have another look.

edit: seems to be a lengthy thread in the Home Phone board so I should have posted/checked there first.

Phone BT up - I recall that if you mentioned to BT that you were leaving Virgin, they would drop the price to £30.

Make it clear to Virgin that you know you can change to BT, for only £30 - they should hopefully rummage around for a bargain! :D
