tax with no insurance

Trying to weight up what to do with my van when I get it on Wednesday. Got a good quote for a year policy now using my 3 years no claim that I had earnt on a car before sold it. But we probably only be using it for 10 - 20 days in total. So wonder if this is possible.

The van stay tax for the year. For most of the year it stay off the road on private property. Than the 10 - 20 days it will be on the road take out temp cover for it..

But for some reason I got a feeling in my back of my head that something got change recently that if you got car tax than it need insurance now, even if it is not on the road? Only way round it is to declare it SORN. Hence get a tax refund, and than each time want to drive it, buy other car tax, which if that is the case will make it too expensive and hence better to have just an annual insurance (due to fee of refund of car tax and paying for a whole month when only couple days are actually being used.)

As long as your taxed van is kept on private property, and always insured on the days it is on the public road you are ok.

But if you don't insure it whilst not using it, then you are risking the fire/theft/vandalism problem which could still occur.
