I really hate myself for getting in debt sometimes!

  • I get quite low sometimes, it’s hard to explain and today I feel awful, the debt journey is a long one. I know I have done really well and worked hard but I wish it was all gone.

If you ever read this original post you would see that me and my boyfriend were talking about marriage etc and that he knew I had debts but instead of a DMP he thought I just had one massive loan.

Today we spoke about it and I told him everything.

He said he loves me a lot and still wants to be with me but he couldn’t possibly consider marrying someone with that amount of debt so we have to wait until it’s all gone. I know that I do didn’t want to get married with debt but I felt that we could at least be engaged or something, I didn’t realise that this puts a full stop on any relationship progression.

This is a big blow for me and it really makes me hate myself for getting into this mess in the first place.

Sorry, I just needed to talk…
In Jan 2007 I had a debt of £27,896.00
In October 2011 I paid it off and owned £0.00 - Kinda proud of this!:T

Please don't feel down, you are doing really well and just use this as something to encourage you towards debt free ness not something terrible.

It is a blow but at least he knows the situation now and this might be his initial reaction but who knows what he'll think after the dust settles. Hopefully he'll help and encourage you in paying it all off, we all make mistakes but you've obviously learned from yours. Good luck. x

  • OMG, I'm so sorry Angel. It doesn't sound like he was very sympathetic to your situation. Perhaps when he has had time to think it over he will come round. It may have been a bit of a shock for him and his comments just a knee jerk reaction. When people have never been in debt, they don't tend to understand what it's like for us, or how we could have let ourselves get in that position. We're not abnormal, far from it - look at the number and variety of people on this forum. You have tackled your situation and you are dealing with your debt - look how much it has come down by! As your signature says - happy and proud to be dealing with your debts. You stay that way and he'll come to terms with it eventually. You have nothing to hate yourself for girl.
