Wescot Credit Services..

A vent thread.. and a bit of advice welcome..

The above dept collecting agency have been writing to my home now for over 6 months, addressed to a lady Miss Cxxxx Bxxxx.. demanding numerous amounts of monies, threatening court, debt collection etc.. the heavy handed stuff.

Now Miss Barker does not live here.. she never has.. she was not the previous owner, we have been here for seven years.. we do not know who she is..

I have telephoned, Wescot, written to wescot, shouted at Westcot but they will not accept now each time they say sorry and that they will correct their records, and a along comes another letter..

They claim that the reason they keep writing is that they are different debts, one British gas, one Provident Credit one Freemans..etc.. and they can not guarantee the will not write/threaten me again..

Every time I telephone them I have to call an 0870 number which is really hacking me off. .

Now having a small amount of savvy.. and thinking ah .. she must have found an old bill or something and be claiming to live at my address, I checked Experian and Equifax records, although I can see my credit searches and my wifes, no other shows at my address (should they?)

A quick Google on this company and I see I am not the only one, going through this..

Trading Standards are not helping.. its not a police matter, other than paying a visit to the Directors of Wescot and explaining in person.. argh!!!!!

any advice?

Return the letters -unopend - as RTS, Not at this address. Simple, also write to Wescot (they are complete B***, so I do sympothise with you.) and tell them that if you have to contact them again you will charge them £25 per letter or telephone call and failure by them to pay will result in court action - this normally grabs their attention.
  • They must be the worst agency I had dealings with. They sent me a letter with no date or address for them on it, all the letter said was ring this number ... urgently. Me being the silly idiot I am, rang them and they asked for me. I put on a voice (lol) and asked who was I speaking to, they told me so I made out I shouted myself to the phone and put on my normal voice. The man knew it was me, (tut) and told me he wanted X amount of thousands of pounds. I told him that I would go to the shed right away and get him it!!!! stupid man said, " yes I suggest you do that"...... total B*****S

    in my opinion!!

just do not have any contact with them at all from now on. they tried the same with me and I called their bluff and just ignored them and they eventually went away. Do not return any letters etc just put them in the bin. They take debts off companies who have failed to get any joy and so they like to see a reward for their efforts at your expense - IGNORE!

I would not bin the letters if I were you. As far as I am aware, it is illegal to throw away post that is not addressed to you, either by name or address.

Best bet is to return to sender

I (or I should say my wife) had a problem with Wescot, they were representing GUS Catalogue Group.

Wescot were always nice and understanding on the phone, but as mentioned by others, it did not change anything.

I started talking to GUS catalogue, who agreed we were not the responsible party, wrote to Wescot to instruct to cease action, and copied the letter to us to prove they were doing something about it. Wescot just continued to send in demands.

Eventually went to CAB/Trading Standards (its a combined office where I live) and the lady there called them. I did not hold much expectations until Wescot told her 'we do not have to talk to you'. Suffice to say she had a fair few more words for them and her parting sentence being that we need not worry about the matter.

Funnilly enough, we never heard from Wescot again. :p

Edit: Forgot to mention, after Wescot realised that my wife was untouchable/unviable to persue (foreign national) the letters started getting addressed to me - I never gave them my name - I was told they obtained it from the elecrtrol role info !!!

Wescot must be the worst to deal with Iv had problems with them before,

If they dont stop sending letters instruct them to send the balifs to collect on it :-)

Another tips is advise them to contact the local council to get the persons correct address,

My problems were a previosue resident of the flat we live in passed away (about 5 years ago maybe more... ) 3 years later they started sending us threatenting letters for this person, the first 5 were return to sender unopened advising person not atthis address, then eventualy opened on and wrote them a letter advising that the named person was deceased and we had no contact details for next of kin advised they contact the council, they then replied advising

" WE are aware you are still a resident at this property as you replied to our previouse letter" ...... I phoned them up and explained that this person was dead they advised that would sort it out ...

Finaly they sent us a letter advising that balifs will be attending the property in 7 days to collect on the debt ..... that was over a year ago were still waiting ....
