renting a car- trip to N.Ireland

hi guys need some help.

was trying to rent a car for a week to go for a family holiday in Northern Ireland. Planning to take the ferry as there's 5 of us and flights and timings are not so good.

well, went ahead and got quotes from a few car rentals and now found out that there may be a fee for taking the car out of the mainland, and it could be between £20-30 on top of the car rental charge which is coming around £50 per day ( I'm looking at a 7 seater MPV) so total around £80/ day which looks enormous

any idea about any of the rentals not charging for taking it to N.I. I tried ringing a few and till now no luck

the worst part is I can't book the fery until I know the vehicle number which I'm going to use.

any help really appreciated

I can't imagin the car hire company is going to be garentee the reg of the car you will get, they hardly manage to fix the make and model. What is the ferries company way of dealing with changed cars?

Agree with tibtib - go on the ferry as foot passengers and pick your car up at the other side... depending on the exchange rate to euros of course.

Have you tried 1car1 for the car hire? Their rates are fantastic, and although they do add a fee for taking it out of the country, their cheaper rates might help balance it out??
