Speeding ticket and still on 2 year probation!

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me out here. I am completly in the wrong here and take ownership of this. I have had my licence for 1 year, and have been caught speeding by a mobile camera. I was doing 46mph on a 40mph road in Slough. I am worried now that I may lose my licence as I am still on my 2 year probation - if I get 6 points, I will lose my licence. Does anyone know what the chances are that I will be offered a speeding course (and how to go about this), or how many points I will get?

You will get 3 points, don't know if you will be offered a course instead.

    46 in a 40 limit is normally a fixed penalty of 3pts and £60.

They may offer you a speed awareness course, if it's a first time offence and within the 10% + 6mph guildelines. It's at the discretion of Thames Valley police, so wait and see what they send you.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

Thanks for that. It is my first time, so fingers crossed they will offer me a speeding awareness course. Is this randomly picked who goes on this course? Someone at work said that I will not be entitled to this as I am still on my 2 year probation - I don't know if there is any truth behind this.
  • No it's not random. It's usually based on how much you were doing over the limit. You might not get it as the guidelines are 10%+2MPH, not 6MPH.

  • Just an update, I recieved the speeding awareness course and have opt'd to take this!!! This cost me £72 and will be 4 hours. Its either this, or get 3 points and a £60 fine.

Glad things worked out for you. Bet/hope its taught you to slow down.
Not getting at you I know how easy it is not to think ahead but its a good
wake up call. And you posting about it might just make others think a bit.
I dread to think how many people dont know about the 6points/2 year
licence revocation (if there is such a word.
    Good Luck
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    10% + 2mph = 46mph. Unlucky!
  • Just out of interest, where was the mobile trap setup ?

I live in the Slough area myself and there are a load of fixed cameras, but don't know their hidden sites well.

It was on the London Road, Slough. I had just got off the M4 - going past harvestor.
