Hello all,
My cousin is getting married in July and i hope to have lost 34lbs as i am a bridesmaid! The bride has shrunk in 7 months from 11stone 1lb to 8 stone by strict dieting!
She followed the Cambridge diet and has been exercising daily!
I want to follow suit although i dont really want to spend money on the cambridge diet!
Any ideas on diets that work!!! :A

Crash diets are quick but you have to change your eating habits to lose weight permanently;)0 -
The best way to lose weight is to eat less.
Cut down on the size of your meals, not cut out all together.
Grill not fry.
Drink green tea.
Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
If you like your chocolate, get some fun sized bars for a treat.
Don't deprive yourself, limit yourself a little of what you want otherwise you will end up binging.(".)0 -

For another small investment you can buy the book and CD (5.99 on Amazon). The book was just reinforcing the programme but the CD is great - its not hypnosis but "mind programming" Sends me off to sleep though and wakes me up at the end - has lots of good sensible thoughts going in and really works on positive self image. I find myself really loving my body and wandering around smiling because I look great. I still need to lose half my body weight but the programme has really been an eye opener for me. Dunno how much I@ve lost though I promised myeslf not to weigh for a month.
I'm not normally into this kind of thing but wow this is good.:T

The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0 -
i've found if you are on a low fat diet, and you add lecithin granules (available from health food stores - also available in tablet form) that can help with weight loss - has for me and others in my family anyway. I think i payed about £8 for a massive tub, and i put it into things lke yoghurt as i can't eat them other ways - they don't have any taste really.0

I lost 3 stone with weightwatchers - I hated paying the almost £5 out per week - but I made sure I stayed for meetings so that made it seem slightly better value. Although it is possible to go, register for free, pay for one class, learn the diet, get the books and never go back, personally I found it better to be in a group because loosing weight is not easy - and a lot of it is about changing eating and excercise habits over the long term.
It did help me - might not work for everyone - mainly because I needed the support (although family were supportive) and it helped just standing on the scales once a week to see what had happened (this should be fairly private - if it isnt, go to a different group). I think it was particularly useful after a bad week - as the classes would motivate plus it was good to see others doing badly too!
THey have a choice of 2 diets which you can swap about week to week, plus once you become a gold member you never have to pay again ever for life as long as you stay within your target weight and get weighed regularly. You can save points for treats such as chocolate and cake - plus earn additional points through exercise. I hated the corporateness of it - but it did work. I would probably try another one such as slimming world if I needed to diet again. (I am currently being careful about what I eat as I need to shed about 9lbs - but I am not the proportions I was prior to joining weightwatchers).
1. not eating sugar/cake/biscuits (very very difficult for me but once I start I dont stop),
2. not eating cheese (similar problem),
3. cutting down to skimmed milk,
4.watching portion sizes particulalarly pasta and breakfast cereals (and bread - I can have a week where all I eat is toast - just dont do it)
5.and of course no chips or fried food, - get one of those oil spray things.
6 eat regularly, and sensibly - try and cut down on processed food.
allows me to shed a few pounds without constantly feeling hungry.
7. Get into the habit of drinking plain water (I get fizzy mineral then at least I feel like I am having something to drink). Dont geyt flavoured mineral water as apart from the chemicals it can quite often contain sugar. Fruit juices are suprisingly calorific too.
8.If you want junk food get a chicken kebab - suprisingly healthy as it is basically chicken, salad and pitta.
9. eat more veg.
10. Soup is easy - eat lots but not cream of soups (alas no heinz tomato soup)
And if you have a bad week, bad day etc, just get over it and start afresh the next day.
I went for about 9 months - our leader was not mega fussy about you missing weeks so I never paid for a meeting I missed. After I lost the weight I felt better about myself than I had in about 10 years. Persevere. Even loosing just 10% of your body weight will make a difference.0 -
Apparently another tip is to divide your plate into thirds and eat the same amount of veg/meat and desert. you have to eat the desert straight away after the meal not 10minutes later.
Another thing i have been doing, is substituting tea/coffee for hot water. Sometimes i feel like a cup of tea just becuase i want something warm.
I would love to hear some of the Paul Mckenna tips as alas i have no sky tv.0 -
Low-carb. :T
Don't believe the media hype or the companies with vested interest in low-fat, or the people who haven't actually looked into it properly, but believe what they've been told by the media
If you do low-carb properly, it doesn't cost more, because it's about adjusting your eating habits: no more sugary/starchy snacks, but fresh healthy food, lots of greens, fresh poultry, lots of water. Convenience foods are out, but well balanced meals are in. And the results can be astonishing. :T
If you search Yahoo health groups, you'll find plenty of support groups for the lifestyle.
Good luck0
