car insurance nightmare with equity/premium credit!

just after some advice really..

i have had my car insurance with the above for almost 2 years now,
just before xmas i changed my bank account and forgot to notify them for the dd purposes, well they re-took the money a few days later (my child benefit still goes into that account) and charged me £20 so i contacted them to ask if the charge could be refunded as ive never been late on a payment before.
after a few weeks of being passed between the comany that deals with the money and the actual insurer i received a letter saying if i didn't re-instate my dd then my policy would cancel on the 9th jan.
well i called both companys as obviously i didn't want my policy to finish so close to its end and eventually spoke with a woman at premium credit who agreed the charge should be waved but this would be the first and last time, i agreed to re-instate my dd which i did with the bank straight after i got off the phone

about a week later i got a letter off equity informing me my policy is now cancelled as i hadn't contacted premium credit  so again i got on the phone to them only to be told there is no way my insurance can be re-instated!!

i am absolutely fuming, im going to lose a whole years no claims bonus because of their error and now i have to wait while their resolution team goes through the phone calls and then decides what action to take

am i entitled to ask for a full refund for the last year as i am now going to be out of pocket in only having 2 years no claims and not 3?

i wouldn't even mind as much but after 3 months with them the first year they cancelled me because they said they never received my forms back even though i sent them recorded delivery and had proof, so i had to start over again then and pay a whole new deposit etc!!

any advice of how to deal with this greatfully received

thanks

If they have cancelled your policy, then there is nothing you can do until the outcome of their investigation.

To ensure they have all the details, write a letter to them confirming everything.

Then if they don't reinstate everything you can commence action against them (using their complaints procedure), with the objective of getting your NCB reinstated in full, plus some compensation for any inconvenience they have caused you (assuming the fault lies in their hands).
  • thank you quentin, they have just called me back and offered a 'good will gesture' of either..
a; giving me another years policy priced on a ncb of 3 years but i would still have to earn the 3rd year - which i swiftly declined so they then offered
b; just give me my 3 years no claims bonus now which will stand with all other insurers even though im not fully up on my 3rd year

so obviously they have accepted fault, i have asked them to phone me later so i can fully think over their offer but i still think i should be owed some sort of compensation for all the phone calls and hassle they have made me go through, plus ive not been able to drive my car for ten days as its not been insured - so any advice on how/what to ask for??

thanks again, i really appreciate your help

If they are now admitting this is all their fault, then they should either reinstate your policy (with some way of giving you back the 10 days of insurance cover they have denied you) or compensate you for the period of insurance you have paid for but are not now getting (you choose which to aim for).

Additionally ask them to compensate you for your time and expense in repeatedly having to contact them as well as some compensation for the 10 days you have lost the use of your car (plus any extra expense you have incurred as a result of this).
