Amended elec statement back to 2002??

I have just received an amended electricity statement that goes back to 12 june 2002, 18 pages long.I have no idea why. I haven't had any info from E.on. It is very confusing, I haven't got anything to check it against as the bills that I have kept only go back to sept 2006. Even then I can't work things out because the figures are confusing for example 3 different estimates for april 2007. How on earth can I sort it out? I have emailed E.on to ask for a simple explanation and am awaiting their reply. It does say I am £29.51 in credit, but how do I know this it correct. Do I just accept what they say. My brain hurts now!!!!!

If you ring them or contact them they'll be able to look at the notes on the account and explain why someone's rebilled the account. It could be something like it's been on the wrong tarrif for a long while and finally been picked up at a guess but 2002 seems a helluva long way to go back without them contacting you before doing it.

  • I had just had a phone call from E.on to expain why they have recalulated my bill.
We have a meter that takes day and night readings (previous owners were on economy 7) apparently the readings have been put in the wrong way round ie night readings instead of day readings when the meter has been read. I don't know why, cos I Know how to read the meter and which readings are which, apparently e.on don't. Now this would make a huge difference to the bill if we were on economy 7 but we are not, we just have a single rate so it hasn't made much difference to the bill.
I suggested to the customer service lady that perhaps it would help if e.on sent a covering note to explain why they were recalculting the bill. This would then avoid all this confusion.
Sorry to go on but i've go it off my chest now.:j

I don't understand why its made any difference if you are on a single rate tariff

If they've rebilled it to an actual reading when it was rebilled to an estimated before it can knock the bill down (or up) a touch.

As for the 2 rate readings being put in the wrong way round - you'd be surprised how often it happens :(

But the point the OP was making is that he has an Economy 7 Meter but is not on an Econony 7 tariff; so they add the consumption from both meters.

I have exactly the same arrangement with BG - so it really does't matter if they calculate I have used 5000kWh on the E7 meter and 1000kWh on the daytime meter, or correctly the other way round - I am still billed for 6,000kWh

I expect the answer is that the info has been fed into a computer and it has had a field day!!

To change the meter readings to the right way around (even though it's only going to add them together again anyhow) they'd need to trek back to where the error crept in and when they're changed the system automatically redoes all the billing - and generates a stupidly long comedy bill as well (I used to warn people when they'd have a bill the thickness of the phonebook headed their way).
