Unsure Where To Save My £40k

I am about to receive a lump sum of £40K (house sale proceeds). In the future I would envisage a part of this sum being placed into a business venture, but this may be in a year or two. In the meantime, I am unsure of the best place to invest. I have considered splitting some into my 4 children's savings accounts to avoid interest. I do not work, and receive widow's benefits, which aren't means tested. I am unsure about the tax implications to my savings. I have thought about ISA's or even Premium Bonds for portions of it. Any suggestions?

I've got 4 boys ranging from 14 to 5 yrs - you still want to come live with me? Although, the prospect of a live-in babysitter to escape the terrors is very tempting. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
