As you say the prices have gone down quite dramatically recently. If you have burner in mind you might want to check out http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters and read up on users reviews/comments.
I'm personally a big fan of Pioneer drives (I've got a DVR-107) and the latest version the DVR-108 (OEM) or A08 (Retail) is a 16 speed (MAX) writer with Dual Layer capability.
Whichever writer you go for, you just need to swap out your CD writer (as you'll no longer need it 'cause the DVD will write CDs as well) remembering to set the jumper to Master or Slave as appropriate (presumably your PSU is up to it as you're already running two optical drives).

Hi 123kd. I have a Pioneer DVR-105 and it is about 12mths old and cost £199.69. But I kept my DVDROM CDR writer which is LG, why waste the laser on the DVD Writer for music CD's when you already have a CD writer.
I believe LG & Lite-On are good products, then again it is to the compatability I've been told by them that no more than me.
I am not as knowledgable as most but I thought this little input might help.
Good Luck.

Have just been researching this myself, and the 2 best drives from what I can make out are the NEC ND-3500A and the Pioneer DVR-108.
The former is slightly newer. Each has its' own fans. I personally am going for the NEC (51.99 at Komplett, but slightly cheaper at Dabs)
I would personally replace your current dvd drive with the new dvd burner, rather than replacing the cd writer you have (as suggested above.) This is because there are certain cds which the dvd writer will not be able to copy but the cd writer may be able to do so.
If you never use your cd writer to copy discs, then this is not an issue.
