A table full of empty jam jars each with a small prize in and you win by getting a ping pong ball in the jar. Its hard but fun. We used very cheap prizes like stickers/lollys/ a voucher for a free balloon from the ballon stall etc.

We had a dad who made a golf putting game, where you putt the ball through holes in a target and the highest score wins, that went down well.

We never used to have a bouncy castle because of the H and S angle, broken legs etc.

The " crazy hair " stall was the biggest money maker at ours. Job lot of bobbles from pound land and a few cans of coloured / glitter hairspray. Oh and an old towel to put round shoulders to protect clothes. The kids loved it !!!!
Teddy Bears birthday an old diary and child pays to write their name on the date they think the birthday is. Our local Asda donated the teddy.

If you have a local park contact them ( your local gov website will have the number) and ask if they have any plants they could donate. We got loads of spring beddig plants from ours.

We also got in Dominoes pizza. Not sure who you contact but will find out. They bring in mini pizzas and sell them for £1.oo you get 50p for each one sold. It saved us figuring out who had the right food certificates etc and there was no outlay and no waste.

Funny Money. Choose an amount either £50 or half of what you collect. That will be the prize. Print off your own bank notes and get people to write their name on the back. End of day pull out winning ticket. You could use vouchers as a prize if you are lucky enough to get any donated.

Take a look over on the charities board there are always posts about who to contact for big donations and how t get the best respons.

The last fete I went to had a make up stall, little girls were made up with 'adult' make up and had manicures and pedicures.

My Mum used to run the 'netball' stall at my school fete, all she needed was a netball post, a few balls and a prize. Whoever managed to get the most goals in 30 seconds won the prize.

I know its nothing to do with a summer fete but does your school do bags2school? We have a collection 2 times per year and generally make £150 approx per time for very little investment in time/energy and no monetary outlay.

    Hope this helps.

fab idea! Helps to promote the recycling ethic in kids too! Brilliant. I might just have to steal this idea for my school!

    OK another quickie.
Ask your teachers for baby/infant pictures of themselves. Charge per answer sheet. Person who identifies most correct wins. If more than 1 draw from a hat !

Food always seems to go down well (no pun intended!). I don't know when you're having the fete but we used to do strawberries (took children to PYO earlier in the day) and also ask the school cook to make chips. Home made cakes are also very popular. You could send children home with a paper plate and a note asking for them to fill it with cakes and return. (we used to put a rhyme on the note, something about 'fill this plate for our fete')

Also, just a thought, we used to hold our school fete on a Friday evening in June (close to longest day) from 7-9pm. It meant we weren't in competition with other Saturday events or people going to the beach/days out etc

I don't know if you only have little ones at your school but some arena events (gymnastics, country dancing, majorettes etc) or a football tournament helps to get parents there and keep them there.

Oh, a 'bureau de change' always worked well. Each stallholder has a float of change at start , someone collects up notes regularly through event, and 'treasurer' will give change from a window of (locked) room to anyone who needs it. Sounds a bit sad but there are lots of thieves around.

Well done on your enthusiasm. Hope it all goes well for you.

I have found a sweet lucky dip is great, all children want to win. Pound shop packs of sweets transferred to small jars is great, they come back time and time again. I always advocate a small sweet (maybe a chew or something) to give to those who do not win the jars. Good luck
