Help!!! Bank account for discharged bankrupt needed

Options
My OH has been discharged for two months now and we need to get him a bank account of some description. The most pressing need being able to put in some cheques he has received. Can anyone suggest anything?

He tried to open a simple Cardcash account today at Barclays and application was declined. The woman advised not to keep applying willy-nilly as repeatedley being declined would lower his credit score even further.

Our business has failed and he is trying to get something else up and running and hasn't signed on because he won't get anything (I am working full time).

The big sticking point seems to be the credit check which shows alsorts of horrendous things and doesn't even say he is discharged yet even though we have the notice to prove it!!!

Is it possible to open an ISA or a crap little savings account without being rejected just so he doesn't totally lose his money from the cheques?

You could go for a basic bank account, with a view to upgrading to a full current account later.

The Co-operative Bank : Cashminder account offers full on-line, branch and telephone access with a Visa Electron Debit card.

Halifax : Web Saver account is a savings account but, gives online access, a cashcard with account number and a sort code for salary, SO's, DD's, bank transfers, salary and paying in cheques ...etc.

    Hope this helps.

  • The co-operative bank offer a basic bank account, you automatically get an election card, part of the Visa network, and can pay SO's and DD's, pay in cheques, receive monthly statements, and use telephone or on-line banking. However if you use the Post Office to pay in cheques it can take 7 working days to clear them. Paid into a branch it's only 3 working days.
Natwest offer the same type of account, again with no credit search, their debit card is a Solo, part of the MasterCard network.
    Hope that helps.
