How much should you charge for pitches at Carnival Fete?

I hope you can help, I have become involved in our local carnival / fete and want to ensure we are getting value for money (as I am not convinced we are), as it is funded with grants of public money and gifts.
We are still working for detail of our July event, but how much should we be charging for:
1. Bar Tent
2. Food seller
3. Fete stall (companies, charities have a 5mx5m allocation)
4. Fairground

For the following events:
a. Carnival day when the town (approx 23000 population) meet on the playing-fields following the precession.
b. If we have a whole weekend of events (Fri night, Sat day & night)

Any help would be appreciated

Many thanks

Jason

  • When I have a pitch at events with our Bouncy Castles and Slides I usually pay a percentage of our profit to the organisers. This is normally 10-20% depending on how much we have made.

    Whereabouts is it?

  • Dorset.

A lot of public money is used to finance the event, and I want to ensure we get best value for the pitches.

    Many thanks
  • It may be more beneficial for you to speak to organisers of such events in your area to see what they charged for pitches.

In your op you say the population is 23,000. How many on average usually attend? Do you have footfall figures from previous years?

The higher the numbers in attendance the more customers for stall holders so you could charge a higher rate.

I would advise ringing round local companies for fairground rides, bouncy castles etc to get an idea on prices they usually pay or terms they will work with you on.

  • For our local Regatta - we have been charging £20.00 for a charity stall, £50 for a trade stall, food has been on a percentage as has the bar - fairground rides tend to take up more space so its either a pitch fee x plot size or a percentage - but then the trust has to go both ways !!!

Hope this gives you some sort of guidance !
  • Could you not hire a bouncycastle yourselves and take 100% of the profits?

http://www.weymouthbouncycastles.co.uk/ They look to have a good selection and not just bouncycastles.
