Capital One credit Searches?!

Hi,

In december, I tried to apply for a credit card, for my father, on the capital one website. I filled in all his details, pressed submit, and after a minute or two of waiting, got a message saying there was a problem with the website and to try again later (just for the record, it wasnt a 'reject' or a 'referral'to an underwriter), rather it seemed like a technical problem.

I tried again the next day, and got the same message again.

I tried again, a week later, and got a message saying they couldnt provide me with a decision and it had been referred to an underwriter.

Anyhow, a fortnight later he got a letter saying they rejected him and wouldn't offer him a card.

I ordered Equifax and Experian credit reports to check, and lo & behold, he has THREE credit checks made against his name, corresponding to the dates I applied online but got the website technical error.

I think he should only have one search against him, do I need to write to Cap One to get them to erase the other two off the credit report?

Cheers

  • Same happened to me about 2 weeks ago - and again, I've got 3 searches showing on my record as a result. I actually did mine all on the same day too, and eventually just gave up altogether.

A few days later I got 3 rejection letters through the post.

Write them or make your father to phone them (as they cannot talk about someone else financial matters with you due to personal information protection law) and ask the searches to be removed. It was a technical problem they have to do that. Be polite but firm.
