charging interest on a 'closed' account?

Hi all,
My barclaycard account has been closed due to a few missed payments (a little extreme in my opinion as I didn't miss many at all) but they are still charging almost 40 pounds interest per month. They have confirmed that the card will never be reactivated and the account will remain in this current state. Is it legal to still keep charging interest and is there anything I can do because at this rate the card will never be paid off.

Thanks

    Yes, it is legal.

    All I can suggest is you try and get a low % balance transfer to another card.

    Why will it not be paid off? If they are only charging £40 interest per month, I am guessing the balance must be about £2000? Just increase your monthly payments, at £100 a month it will be paid off in a couple of years.

    Perfectly legal for them to charge you interest.

    They say you missed payment but you say you didn't? Why the discrepancy?

    S/he didn't say that::

    Well, s/he admits to miss 'a few', but not ‘many’. How many is ‘many’ and how many is 'too many'??? :confused:

    Sorry, I read "many" as "any" :o

    This is always the answers given to credit card problems if you cant pay but if you are in that position you will probably not get another card account to transfer the balance to.
  • thanks for all the info.
    It is indeed one of those catch 22 situations. It's my fault but at the end of the day I have to get it sorted somehow. I'm really struggling to pay the minimum payments as it is so actually paying it off seem so far away. I'm not sure I'll be able to get another c/c to transfer, especially at the moment but I guess it's worth a try. So, not a lot else to do.
    Cheers
